An open source video game, or simply an open source game, is a video game whose source code is open source. They are often freely distributable and sometimes cross-platform compatible.

We are a FREE resource for open source games and cannot keep up to date with all posts, things may change that we do not know about. If you think a page needs an update please let us know so we can look and see what we can do.

Why FOSS Games or Free Open Source Games?

Well maybe you are a parent who is fed up with your kids wanting the latest PC Game, or has a console (XBox Sony Playstations etc) and games are expensive.

With open source games, they are generally free or a slighltly older version is if the latest isn't.
They can be available for Windows, Linux (of various versions) or Mac OsX plus some others. Some even have versions for all these three.
The games are often open sourced versions of original games that have been abandoned by the original company,
sometimes they are written from scratch, or re-written by enthusistic programmers who do it for fun, pleasure or learning
being open source games means they can end up with branches or versions all slighltly different with diffrent scenarios or aims
mods are often available to achieve different things
It also means people can view the code and point out security flaws, bugs and improvements to make things even better
