Gang Garrison 2 is a free multiplayer ‘demake’ of Valve’s Team Fortress 2. With all 9 classes, many different TF2-inspired environments, and fast-paced, team-based, multiplayer game play, GG2 is the premier TF2 tribute.
It was originally conceived by Mrfredman and MedO for the 2008 TIGSource.com ‘Bootleg Demake’ competition, with many developers later adding new features.
Gang Garrison 2 presents the player with 9 unique classes to use in frenetic, cooperative multiplayer action in a stylish and unique 8-bit style.
Battle with your friends or others you encounter online through a whole range of vibrant maps; TF2 maps reimagined in 2D as well as a multitude of maps with all sorts of different looks and settings, all of which have been dreamed up and constructed by members of our community.
there is a huge effort to provide simple, bugfree custom map support so that anyone with a paint application can put together a map and test it themselves with our Garrison Builder utility.
Also, Gang Garrison modifications are encouraged; many successful mods have been incorporated into the game as new features.
Gang Garrison 2 uses the major gameplay tenets of Team Fortress 2, while modifying them for use in 2D.
The player can choose one of nine different classes, each with their own strengths and weaknesses.
One is hidden and can be accessed by pressing ‘Q’ at the class select screen.
Each class had their name changed, and lack abilities as specialized as Team Fortress 2 due to technical constraints.
The classes are: Runner, Detonator, Rocketman, Firebug, Constructor, Rifleman, Healer, Overweight, and Infiltrator. Additionally, the main characters from Cave Storymake guest appearances as the hidden 10th class. Each character only possesses one special ability and one weapon; for example, the Rifleman’s rifle and the Infiltrator’s revolver. In Gang Garrison 2 there are currently five game modes, with a sixth in development.
Capture the flag, which involves capturing a briefcase filled with intelligence, Control Point, where the teams fight for control of specific locations, Generator mode, where each team tries to destroy the opposing team’s power generator, Arena, where players try to get rid of the other team’s players, King of the Hill, where a single control point needs to be captured and defended for a set time, and Double King of the Hill where two control points are present, but both need to be captured in order for the clock to start. “Critical” shots, special attacks which cause extra damage in Team Fortress 2, have been removed in Gang Garrison 2. Games are played on online game servers, which the player can find with help of a lobby server or join manually. Servers can also be hosted by players. Since version 2.5, Gang Garrison 2 has had a “server-sent plugins” system, in which game plugins (which, for example, add voting on the next map or in-game text chat) can be automatically downloaded when joining a server.
